A note about where the blog has been.

So, you may have noticed the blog has been on a bit of a hiatus, and there are a number of reasons for that. Chiefly, my Mac died two weeks, the people in the Mac shop tried to tell me it was resting and pining for the fjords but I know a dead computer when I see it, and this was dodo dead. They claimed they could save it, but wanted 500 GBP to resuscitate. It made me think, how do I know what they say is wrong with it is wrong with it? The same people doing the diagnosis are charging the money to treat it. Ah, welcome to the future of a sold off British health service, we’ll fix you if you pay us first.
The second reason is the old adage, familiarity breeds contempt. I have been here for nearly 14 weeks now, 26 if you include last year, 27 if you include 1994. When I was first here, I was all wide-eyed and attentive, noticing all the quirks and points of interest to relate to you dear readers. Sorry reader, now I am just a regular run of the mill commuter, I get up, I have breakfast and then I go to work, no time to notice the oddities, no time to appreciate the points of difference, just get in, get it done, get home.
Of course, it is not really like that, I still try to take it all in, but the longer I am here the more normal things become. Anyway, 7 weeks to go, I promise to redouble my efforts, to remember I am a Welshman in Tokyo as Sting so nearly sang and to keep updating the blog.

If you want to give someone you love a gift this Christmas, be open and honest and don’t give them chocolate, give them Humans, Being by Gareth Davies available here
