A note about Coop Deli

The Coop Deli van is back. Conspicuous by its absence it’s been for the last few weeks, leaving me thinking that the Japanese secret services or whoever was in the driving seat had collected all the information they needed on me and were happy to move on, But, suddenly it’s back. As I walk to work through the Yanaka area, admiring the late autumn colours, and multiple temples, it comes crawling around the bend. As I walk home through the quiet streets of Katushika-ku, it pulls out innocently from a side road and turns right. If it were an ex-lover, I think I would have the right to get an injunction, a restraining order but I guess you can’t take out a restraining order on a spy or an innocent delivery van. I can’t help thinking that spying on me must be a boring job.
Spymaster: What’s he doing?
Spy: Walking to work.
Spymaster:  What’s he listening to?
Spy: Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast.
Spymaster: What is he doing now?
Spy: Walking home from work?
Spymaster: What’s he buying?
Spy: Satsumas.
It must be the dullest job around.
